During phase 1 studies researchers assess the safety, side effects, optimal doses, and risks and benefits of certain medications or devices.

These small early scientific trials help researchers decide whether they should further evaluate these medications or products in a larger randomized study and compare them to existing treatments. Typically, in a Phase 1 study, volunteer patients will stay overnight in our private rooms while we evaluate the treatments under the close supervision of nurses and physicians. Through this process several successful medications studied at the Jacksonville Center for Clinical Research have become approved and available to the public. By participating in these studies, volunteers can make a significant impact that can be felt far and wide. Often significant reimbursement and individualized medical attention are available for involvement.
