Diabetes & Cholesterol Research

ASO (antisense oligonucleotides) is the newest class of investigational cholesterol lowering drugs being studied. We are conducting a 28-week research study for individuals who have Type 2 Diabetes and are taking a statin cholesterol medication. This research study will be evaluating the safety, tolerability and effectiveness of an investigational ASO drug to reduce the levels of circulating LDL cholesterol. LDL cholesterol is a major heart disease risk factor and people with type 2 diabetes have a higher risk of heart disease.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are 18 to 65 years old
  • Have type 2 diabetes
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 40 kg/m2
  • Have LDL cholesterol levels between 70 and 200
  • Are taking a statin cholesterol medication

There are additional criteria to meet to qualify for this study. Volunteers who qualify and participate in our study will receive study related medication and medical exams at no cost and will be given a stipend for travel expenses. No health insurance is required to participate.
